Established in 1983, the Noel Barnes Scholarship honors the legacy of the late Noel Barnes, a pivotal figure in founding the Rotary Club of Wollundry. This scholarship aims to support Year 11 students from Wagga Wagga high schools who demonstrate financial need and are committed to completing their secondary education.

Scholarship Overview
The scholarship is awarded to one student from each of the participating high schools in Wagga Wagga. The identity of awardees remains confidential, with private presentations conducted by the respective schools
Eligibility
Year 11 students intending to complete Year 12 (including VET programs) at participating high schools in Wagga Wagga
Award Value
Total of $1,500, disbursed in two installments:
$750 in Term 1 of Year 11
$750 in Term 1 of Year 12
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated financial need
- Good character
- Not receiving Aus-study or other scholarships
Selection Process
Each participating school’s principal selects one recipient annually. Nominations are requested by the end of March each year.
Identity of the awardees remains confidential however; the sponsored schools conduct a private presentation to the student with appropriate reference to the history of the Wollundry Rotary Noel Barnes scholarship.

History of Noel Barnes Scholarship

The scholarship was initiated to commemorate Noel Barnes’ significant contributions to the Rotary community. Originally, the scholarship provided $125 annually to students from four senior high schools. Over time, the award amount and the number of participating schools have increased to better support students in need.
